Attack on Polish patrol in Afghanistan
On Tuesday, 4th October in the morning Polish patrol was attacked. As a result of that Private 1st Class Rafał Nowakowski died.

The accident took place in southern part of Ghazni province. During patrol realised by soldiers from Bravo Combat Group, aiming at checking projects carried out by PRT, on Highway 1 an Improvised Explosive Device exploded under the vehicle. Private 1st Class Rafał Nowakowski was killed and two other soldiers were wounded.

MEDEVAC helicopter was called immediately. The victims were transported to hospital in Ghazni, where they are under medical observation. Their life is not in danger.
Besides American MEDEVAC helicopters also Quick Reaction Forces participated in securing the area of the accident. Helicopters Mi-24 and Mi-17 were also sent as support.
The family of the killed soldier as well as families of the injured were informed about the accident.


Private 1st Class Rafał Nowakowski started military service in 2003. He served in the 17th Wielkopolska Mechanised Brigade in Międzyrzecz, where he was a gunner in motorised infantry battalion. In Afghanistan he served as a junior gunner. He was a bachelor. He was 30 years old.
